PHILADELPHIA, PA – Judith Sullivan, M.Ed., associate professor of mathematics and the winner of 2013 Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching has co-authored a book on academic empowerment for new students entering college. "From Angst to Empowerment: Strategic Planning for Collegiate and Academic Success" (Pacific Crest, 2012), co-authored with biology faculty member Barbara Giuliano, Ed.D. ’72, is a guidebook for students who are just beginning their academic career and provides a clear, concise path to achieve success in the college classroom.

PHILADELPHIA, PA –Suzanne del Gizzo, Ph.D., associate professor of English and director of departmental honors, has been named editor-elect of The Hemingway Review, the premier scholarship journal of the Hemingway Society. Dr. del Gizzo was named editor at the society’s annual board meeting at the American Literature Association conference in late May.

On June 18, 2013, the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) will release its report on teacher preparation programs in the United States, including programs considered alternative teacher certification programs. NCTQ contacted all teacher preparation programs in the United States and requested that they participate in the survey. Almost all independent, non-profit institutions, including Chestnut Hill College, refused to participate. Note that in the June 6, 2013 email sent to our Chair of the Division of Teacher Education and Leadership, NCTQ admits as much.

Mary Lou Quinlan, M.B.A, New York Times bestselling author of “The God Box: Sharing My Mother’s Gift of Faith, Love, and Letting Go” (Greenleaf Books, 2012) addressed the Class of 2013 at the 86th Commencement of Chestnut Hill College on May 11th at an outdoor ceremony on the College campus. Quinlan, who has built a national reputation as an author, advertising executive, and speaker, acknowledged the hard work of the graduates and provided advice and direction for the Class of 2013 moving forward.

Putting the "Art" Back Into the Liberal Arts Philadelphia, PA -- Chestnut Hill College, highly regarded for its holistic approach to education, has reinstated its Art Studio major through an innovative partnership with Studio Incamminati, School for Contemporary Realist Art. The joint Art Studio program offers students of both institutions the opportunity to combine a comprehensive liberal arts education with skills-based representational art training in order to develop rewarding careers - and lives - in the arts.

The prayers and thoughts of the Chestnut Hill College Community are with our dear neighbors in Boston as they cope with the unthinkable tragedy at the Boston Marathon. We are all one in pain and suffering and will continue to remember the people of Boston as they grieve the terrible loss of life and senseless violence that occurred yesterday. PHILADELPHIA, PA –The Council for Exceptional Children at Chestnut Hill College (CEC) will sponsor the fourth annual “Lily’s Loop Walk,” benefitting Lily’s Hope Foundation on Saturday, April 13, at 2 p.m. starting at the Summerhouse lawn. The event will be held rain or shine.  The event is held in honor of Lily Driscoll, the niece of Sister Marie Bambrick, coordinator for Teach for America and Philadelphia Teaching Fellows at the College. Lily was born prematurely and has overcome many obstacles to live a healthy, happy life. 
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Matthew Carlson, Psy.D, a 2009 graduate of the School of Graduate Studies has earned the distinction of diplomate status (ABPP) in the field of clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. The American Board of Professional Psychology is the primary organization for specialty board certification in psychology. 
PHILADELPHIA, PA – The School of Undergraduate Studies at Chestnut Hill College will hold an Open House for prospective students on Saturday, April 20, at 9 a.m. in Sorgenti Arena, Martino Hall. The College is located at 9601 Germantown Avenue. Guests will enjoy a campus tour of the College with a student ambassador and have the opportunity to meet with admissions and financial aid counselors, learning more about the admissions process, scholarship programs and how to apply for financial aid.

Staudenmaier, SJ, professor of history of technology and engineering ethics at the University of Detroit Mercy will present the lecture, “The Rediscovery of Place in Technology and Prayer” on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Commonwealth Chateau, SugarLoaf campus at Chestnut Hill College. This lecture is sponsored by the Institute for Religion and Science at Chestnut Hill College.
