Award winning artist, Margie Thompson, SSJ, M.F.A., associate professor of art and coordinator of art studio programs at Chestnut Hill College, has her work showcased in the exhibition “The Burning Bush and Other Encounters in the Landscape” at The Shops at Green Wolf’s Village Barn in Skippack, Pa., until September 28, 2014. The exhibition features paintings she created during her painting excursions in 2012 and 2013 when she visited Ghost Ranch, N.M. and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vt.
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Theology professor, Nancy R. Howell, Ph.D., will deliver the lecture, “Kanzi, Pan-Homo Culture and Theological Primatology,” at the College’s Commonwealth Chateau, SugarLoaf Hill, on October 7, at 7 p.m. Kanzi is a bonobo monkey who by observing things via repetition and observation, learned ways to communicate with humans. Dr. Howell will discuss these findings regarding primate studies and what they mean from a theological perspective.
In partnership with Music and Arts, Chestnut Hill College will welcome critically acclaimed soprano Maeve Hoglund to the campus to perform a concert on Sept. 9, 2014 at 7 p.m. and offer music department students a master class on Sept 10, 2014 at 2 p.m.
PHILADELPHIA, PA – The psychology department will host lecturer, David B. Sarwer, Ph.D., a psychologist from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania, on Monday, September 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Redmond Room, St. Joseph Hall. He will present the symposium “Psychological Aspects of Physical Appearance: Cosmetic Enhancement to Treating Disfigurement” that will provide an overview of more than two decades of research conducted on the psychosocial aspects of physical appearance at the Center for Human Appearance at Penn.
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College welcomes Dan Rottenberg, author of “The Outsider, Albert M. Greenfield and the Fall of the Protestant Establishment,” to discuss the book and sign copies. The event takes place Thursday, October 9, at 7:30 p.m. on the College’s SugarLoaf Hill campus. In 2006, CHC bought the 30-acre Sugarloaf Estate from the Albert M. Greenfield Foundation for $11 million, doubling the size of its campus.
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College welcomes Jack Goldberg, M.D., F.A.C.P., who will deliver the lecture “E. Pluribus Unum: Leukemia from Patients to Bench and Back again,” for its 21st Annual Biomedical Distinguished Lecture Series on Wednesday, October 1, at 3:30 p.m., in the East Parlor, St. Joseph Hall.
PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Delaware Valley Education Consortium (DVEC) awarded two $1,500 scholarships to Chestnut Hill College students, junior Christopher Alford and Andrew Bleckner. The DVEC, in existence since 1994, sponsors the annual Philadelphia Teacher Job Fair and the college is one of the its founding members. Each year the DVEC awards five $1,500 scholarships to member schools who have a year left towards earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree or certification.
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College will host a training for the Soldiers Project Pennsylvania on Understanding and Treating Trauma in Military Children on Thursday, October 2, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Redmond Room, St. Joseph Hall.
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College doctoral students, Allison Abrahamson, M.S., and Rebeccah A. Bernard, M.A., M.S., have received the 2014 American Psychological Association Award for a Distinguished Graduate Student in Professional Psychology for the creation of the Human Rights Forum.  Abrahamson and Bernard, each in their fifth year in CHC’s Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) program, were nominated for the honor by Susan McGroarty, Ph.D., ABPP, associate professor of Psychology at CHC and faculty mentor for the Human Rights Forum. 
A group of students from the Interdisciplinary Honors Program at Chestnut Hill College will tour the Chestnut Hill community and visit various local organizations Aug. 21. This new activity is called Chestnut Hill as Text (CHAT) and the students, in groups of three or four students, will visit the Morris Arboretum, Woodmere Art Museum, Chestnut Hill Community Association, theChestnut Hill Local newspaper, Chestnut Hill Business Association, Chestnut Hill Historical Society, Friends of the Wissahickon, Weaver’s Way Cooperative Association, Philadelphia Print Shop, Ltd.
Chestnut Hill College announces its official acceptance into the Collegiate Sprint Football League, joining the ranks of prestigious Ivy League universities and military academies that play football for the love of the game, beginning in fall 2015.
College President Carol Jean Vale, SSJ, Ph.D, announced today the appointment of Dr. Wolfgang Natter as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, effective July 15, 2014.   
Strauman is currently on a sabbatical leave and has been spending his time composing and submitting works to national and international competitions. In order to be selected for Fifteen Minutes of Fame, Strauman had to compose a work for a string quartet that is 60 seconds or less in length and incorporates modern string techniques. The premise of Strauman’s theme, “Don’t Breathe a Word,” is inspired by a fictitious film noir, Give ‘M Daylight. His composition was one of 15 compositions selected and 100 composers and musicians submitted works for consideration. 
On May 10, in front of friends, family and the entire Chestnut Hill College community, the class of 2014 became the newest Griffin alumni as the College celebrated its 87th Commencement ceremony. In all, 634 students were graduated with 368 receiving bachelor's of arts (BA), science (BS) or music (BM) degrees, 245 receiving master's degrees and 21 graduate students earning their Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.)
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College inducted 11 new members into the Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society at a ceremony held on campus on April 10, 2014.  Sigma Beta Delta was founded in 1994 and encourages and recognizes scholarship and achievement among students of business, management and administration. Sigma Beta Delta promotes personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by service. In order to become a member, students must rank in the upper 20 percent of their class.
The Division of Teacher Education and Leadership in the School of Graduate Studies will offer an Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) endorsement program for teachers beginning in fall 2014. The 12 credit, four-course program will focus on identification, assessment, instructional planning, and interventions across settings and grade levels in order to improve a teacher’s skills in dealing with complex classroom settings. 
PHILADELPHIA, PA – In a recent article released by ForensicColleges.com, Chestnut Hill College was named one of 15 public and private colleges and universities with the best forensic biology programs in the country. Chestnut Hill was ranked fifth on the list, recognized for a minimum of 121 credit hours of course work, a senior seminar in biology,offering students with a GPA of 3.0 and greater the opportunity to join Sigma Zeta, the national science and mathematics honor society, and for advanced coursework options.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Chestnut Hill College Music Department presents their annual spring instrumental concert on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the East Parlor, St. Joseph Hall.  This year’s concert will include performances from Flute Ensemble lead by Dannah Addalli, M.A., the Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Robert Komada, B.A., the String Ensemble conducted by Joan King, M.M., and the Wind Ensemble under the direction of David Samson, Ph.D.
