Chestnut Hill College Professor Edits New Book on Learning Management Systems and Instructional Design

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Yefim Kats, Ph.D., assistant professor of computer science and information technology, has edited a new publication, “Learning Management Systems and Instructional Design: Best Practices in Online Education” (IGI Global, 2013).

“Learning Management Systems and Instructional Design” provides an overview on the connection between learning management systems and the variety of instructional design models and methods of course delivery. The book is a useful source for administrators, faculty, instructional designers, course developers, and businesses interested in the technological solutions and methods of online education. The publication, a premier resource guide in online education, includes 19 chapters that highlight best practices and case studies from universities, schools, and other institutions internationally.

“With the rapid proliferation of distance learning, academic and corporate stakeholders confront the difficult problem of choosing and managing an appropriate technological environment that fits their budget, technical resources, curriculum, pedagogy, and profile of learners,” says Kats. “In this context, the book is intended to fill the gap in the current literature on the interaction between supporting technologies, instructional design principles, and best teaching methodologies.”

Yefim Kats, Ph.D., received his doctorate from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and has an extensive curriculum development and teaching background with traditional, hybrid, and online courses. His teaching and research interests include informatics, instructional design, e-Learning, and social implications of technology. His work has received grants from the National Research Council and the National Institute of Health.
