Chestnut Hill College E-Newsletter - Issue #7

Chestnut Hill College E-Newsletter - Issue #7

From the President's Desk Newsletter Header

It’s official, spring has arrived. We are looking forward to a celebratory Easter later this week as we take a moment to refresh and recharge as we close in the final weeks of our spring semester.

Pamela King, one of our cybersecurity faculty members, represented the College as part of State Representative Chris Rabb’s Senior-to Senior program. New on campus, we recently reopened our renovated Exercise Science Lab. This upgraded space will better serve our current students and support the continued growth of our Exercise Science program.

As I mentioned last issue, our athletic teams have been busy lately as well. With a historic run by our women’s basketball team (you can read more below) and another postseason effort for our men’s basketball team, we’re shifting gears on campus to spring sports with lots of action happening on campus. In addition, this past weekend, our women’s bowling team participate in the CACC championship tournament, winning their opening round but falling just short after a great effort in the double-elimination rounds. Learn more online at https://cacc.prestosports.com/sports/Championship/2023-24/BOWL.

Wishing you and yours a joyous Easter!

Sincerely, Bill Latimer, Ph.D., M.P.H.
President, Chestnut Hill College

Chestnut Hill College Unveils New Exercise Science Lab

CHC students in an exercise science class working on a treadmill demonstration

Carolyn Albright, Ph.D., chair of health and exercise science, and professor of health and exercise science, hopes that prospective students will be attracted to the new lab because it offers the unique opportunity to participate in hands-on experiments and lessons. Already outfitted with a metabolic cart that allows classes to conduct VO2 max and other metabolic testing, students can watch real-time data and get a feel for their future career fields such as sports nutrition or clinical diagnostic or rehabilitation jobs. Having this lab also provides opportunities for physical learning for strength and conditioning classes where students learn the science behind and proper techniques for athletic training.

I am proud to congratulate our women’s basketball team for reaching the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Championship game for the first time in Chestnut Hill College’s history! While the Griffins ultimately fell short to top seed Jefferson University, this was truly an outstanding and unforgettable season for our women’s basketball athletes.

I would also like to acknowledge Chestnut Hill College standout Bridie McCann (pictured left) for being named the 2023-24 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year. What an outstanding accomplishment!
