Notice: Potential SEPTA Strike May Limit Public Transportation Options Starting November 1

The Transportation Workers Union Local 234 has approved a worker strike should a contract agreement not be reached. The strike would begin on Monday, November 1 and would include SEPTA buses, subways, and trolleys. Regional Rail would continue to operate. In addition, the campus shuttle service will continue to operate as scheduled, providing access to the Regional Rail stations and other off-campus locations (https://www.chc.edu/about-chc/shuttle-service).

For information relating to interruptions of SEPTA service, please visit: http://septa.org/service/interruption/2021-guide.html

Chestnut Hill College does not anticipate a significant impact to regular College operations. There is potential for minor adjustments in dining services hours depending on staffing issues (any changes or interruptions to service will be clearly posted).

The College is prepared to support students unable to travel to campus due to any SEPTA service interruptions. We are not expecting significant changes in academic operations, but we will try to work with individual students based on their own needs and course requirements.

In order to ensure the College may best accommodate your needs, please take the following steps if you anticipate that you will face significant challenges:

  • Make your instructors aware if you have concerns about your ability to travel to campus in the event that SEPTA service is interrupted.

  • Communicate with your academic advisor(s) and/or Dean’s Office to alert them as well that you have concerns about traveling to campus in the event of an interruption of SEPTA service.  By communicating with both your faculty members and others who advise you, it will assist us in anticipating the impact of any changes in public transit service.

  • Each individual course is unique, and so your faculty, working with their Chairs and Deans, will be best equipped to provide opportunities for you to continue learning if you are unable to come to campus.  When it is not possible to recreate the learning experience in some way, it may be necessary for students to make up lesson or lab time when they are able to return to campus.

  • In the event that an interruption in SEPTA service continues for more than a week, we will be reaching out to those students affected through their advisors and Deans’ Offices to pursue solutions for their learning on a case-by case basis.

  • For those students whose access to experiential learning sites off campus is affected, please contact your fieldwork coordinators directly.

We appreciate your patience, and we will continue to update this page with any new information as it becomes available.
