Philadelphia, PA- Chestnut Hill College’s Institute for Religion and Science will host Janet Mock, CSJ, former executive director of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, on Sunday, March 13, at 1:30 p.m., at the Commonwealth Chateau at the College’s Sugar-Loaf campus.

In an increasingly diverse global community, change is inevitable. How do we understand, discern and manage our response to the changing world around us so as to foster well-being for all? How can we engage one another in issues of importance even when we don’t see eye to eye? Mock’s presentation “Change, Contemplation and Civil Discourse” will provide resources for addressing these questions.

Janet Mock is a Sister of St. Joseph of Baden, Pa., and has served as formation director and in congregational leadership for her community. She has also worked in urban ministry in association with Carlow High College in Pittsburgh, Pa. and served as director of the Ecumenical Institute on Racism, a collaborative effort of Carlow College and Christian Associates of Southwest Pennsylvania.

Since 1997, Mock has served as director of the Institute for Leadership and Mission at Washington Theological Union, and as executive director of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious in Silver Spring, Md. Currently Mock is working with religious communities of women in the areas of facilitation, education and retreat ministry.

“The Institute for Religion and Science at Chestnut Hill College has been quite interested in finding ways to promote civil dialogue, especially since topics that deal with both science and religion can create conflict,” says Kathleen Duffy, SSJ, Ph.D., director of the Institute for Religion and Science. “In a variety of leadership positions, Sister Janet Mock has experienced such difficult conversations and has developed skills for handling them in a gracious yet honest way. We look forward to having her share some of her insights and strategies with us.”

This lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Kathleen Duffy, SSJ, Ph.D., at 215.248.7197 or kduffy@chc.edu.
