Inauguration Week - Thomas Schubert Presents: "Synergies of Music and the Sciences"

September 27, 2023 - 7:00pm
Location:
Rotunda, St. Joseph Hall

A beloved academic tradition returns as Chestnut Hill College with host the Katherine M. and William E. Schubert Memorial Lecture as part of Inauguration Week. As in the past, the lecture will feature a guest speaker and the awarding of an honorary degree. This year's speaker is Thomas F. Schubert, Ph.D., Engineering Professor Emeritus at the University of San Diego and principal bassoonist for the La Jolla Symphony. Dr. Schubert has been honored for his excellence in providing engineering education to students, but also teaches courses looking at the synergies of music and the sciences. It is on this topic, that Dr. Schubert will speak during the memorial lecture.

Legendary Scottish singer/songwriter Dougie MacLean will be presented with an honorary degree, celebrating his beautiful musical contributions as the Hill Singers/OMC combined choir will serenade the crowd by performing MacLean's most famous piece, Caledonia, the unofficial anthem of Scotland. This lecture is FREE and open to the public but an RSVP is required.
