Celebrating the Inauguration of Dr. William W. Latimer

Chestnut Hill College is thrilled to announce the upcoming inauguration of William W. Latimer, Ph.D., M.P.H., as the seventh president of the College. A formal inauguration ceremony will be held on Friday, September 29th, 2023, with a series of inaugural events set to take place from September 23rd - September 30th.

graphic with words: CHC night at the Phillies informationSaturday, September 23rd @ 4PM (Citizen's Bank Park) - CHC Night at the Phillies: Grab your classmates, friends, and family as our beloved tradition is back just in time to kick off Inauguration Week. Please plan to join us as we cheer on the playoff-hopeful Phils against the rival New York Mets. All CHC fans will receive a special Griffin Nation bucket hat, which can be picked up at the alumni gathering prior to the game at 1:30pm. Look for the CHC tent in the K Lot (near the 11th Street side).

Wednesday, September 27th @ 7PM (Rotunda, St. Joseph Hall) - Katherine M. and William E. Schubert Memorial Lecture: A beloved academic tradition returns as Chestnut Hill College with host the Katherine M. and William E. Schubert Memorial Lecture as part of Inauguration Week. As in the past, the lecture will feature a guest speaker and the awarding of an honorary degree. This year's speaker is Thomas F. Schubert, Ph.D., Engineering Professor Emeritus at the University of San Diego and principal bassoonist for the La Jolla Symphony. Dr. Schubert has been honored for his excellence in providing engineering education to students, but also teaches courses looking at the synergies of music and the sciences. It is on this topic, that Dr. Schubert will speak during the memorial lecture. Legendary Scottish singer/songwriter Dougie MacLean will be presented with an honorary degree, celebrating his beautiful musical contributions as the Hill Singers/OMC combined choir will serenade the crowd by performing MacLean's most famous piece, Caledonia, the unofficial anthem of Scotland. If you are unable to attend, you can watch a livestream of the lecture here.

Thursday, September 28th @ 4PM - Mass at the Motherhouse with SSJ Ceremony: Join our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph, for a special mass and reception where the Sisters of St. Joseph and Dr. Latimer will affirm their understanding, loyalty and love for the Mission of Chestnut Hill College. Friday, September 29th @ 11AM - Inauguration Ceremony and Reception: The CHC community, Sisters of St. Joseph, honored guests, and the Latimer Family will come together as we officially inaugurate the 7th president of Chestnut Hill College, William W. Latimer, Ph.D. M.P.H. The uniqueness of this moment will be shared as Dr. Latimer becomes the first lay president in the beautiful history of Chestnut Hill College. The ceremony will be followed by a reception of celebration. If you are unable to attend, you can watch a livestream of the Inauguration here.

Friday, September 29th from 8-11PM - CHC Student Inaugural Ball: The students and their guests will mark the day with an “Inaugural Ball”. Formal attire will be on full display as our students welcome their president and share a dance with the Drs. Latimer.

Saturday, September 30th from 12-5PM - Griffin Fest!: Join us for the first-ever Griffin Fest, a celebration of all things Griffin Nation! We will welcome the community and our families for a fabulous day of spirit and fellowship. Activities include women’s volleyball in Sorgenti Arena at noon, women’s tennis on our courts at noon, women’s soccer on the pitch at 1:30, a Quidditch match and men’s soccer at 3:30. Fun for the entire family, there will be games and activities, the Big Griff Tailgate Party, the Alumni Beer tent, and Griffin Alley, which will allow you to shop at stands featuring the talents and wares of our CHC students, and more. What a great way to wind up the weekend! No RSVP is required for Griffin Fest, however you can RSVP for the Young Alumni/Athletics Beer Tent taking place from 3-5PM to support the men and women's soccer teams. Link to RSVP is below.
