Philadelphia, PA- Chestnut Hill College has received a grant from The Association of Colleges of Sisters of St. Joseph (ACSSJ) to participate in National Catholic Sisters Week.

“The ACSSJ had joined 41 member campuses nationwide in celebrating National Catholic Sisters Week,” said Martha Malinski, executive director of the ACSSJ. “The mini-grants will allow campuses to share the current and past contributions of the Sisters of St. Joseph in creating a more just community through advocacy on sustainable development, human rights, public health and immigration.”

The ACSSJ grant was awarded to four member campuses, and allows the institution to highlight the work and impact of the Sisters of St. Joseph in local, national and international politics.

Chestnut Hill College will use the grant to host “Beyond Borders: Mission at the Heart of Immigration and Advocacy,” with Veronica Roche, SSJ. Mary Kay Flannery, SSJ, D.Min., will give the response. The lecture will take place on Monday, March 14, at 2:30 p.m. in the Redmond Room of St Joseph Hall. The talk is sponsored by Campus Ministry.

Veronica Roche, SSJ, is a licensed marriage and family therapist who holds masters’ degrees in Theology and in Counseling Psychology. Sister Veronica has had the privilege of working with the immigrant community for almost 40 years, most recently at St. Joseph Pro Cathedral Parish in Camden, NJ.

“Beyond Borders: Mission at the Heart of Immigration and Advocacy” will focus on the ways that advocacy for our immigrant sisters and brothers is at the heart of the Mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph, and how it is a concern for all people of faith, especially in these challenging times. The lecture will explore our common responsibilities, include personal testimonies and demonstrate how advocacy is practiced at the parish level.
