Soldiers Project Pennsylvania to Host Clinician Training on Trauma at College

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College will host a workshop on “An Overview of Trauma Informed Care” for The Soldiers Project Pennsylvania on Thursday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the East Parlor, St. Joseph Hall.  

This workshop will guide participants in their overall understanding of basic principles of psychotherapy with trauma survivors and the application of a stage-based mode. Techniques and tools for intervening with trauma survivors will be emphasized. Therapist self-care will also be addressed. 

Susan McGroarty, Ph.D. ABPP will present the training. The training is open to social workers, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors and those in the medical field. Two continuing education credits (CEU) will be offered for social workers, professional counselors and marriage and family therapists who attend. All members and guests who plan to attend the workshops will need to preregister to receive CEU certificates on the day of the training. 

Dr. McGroarty is an associate professor of psychology at Chestnut Hill College. She teaches courses the graduate program in clinical psychology in the areas on clinical intervention and multicultural counseling. Other areas of professional interest include psychological trauma, technology and health psychology. She is a member of APA, SPSSI, PPA and NJPA, and past co-chair of the NJPA Diversity Committee and is an invited member of the ABPP Diversity Committee. 

There is a $25.00 charge for those attending who are not members of The Soldiers Project PA, with or without CEUs. Registration is required and payment can be made at the door. Please email Sister Nancy DeCesare, Ph.D. at decesaren@chc.edu to register.
