Soldiers Project Pennsylvania to Host Clinician Training to Discuss Understanding and Treating Trauma in Military Children

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College will host a training for the Soldiers Project Pennsylvania on Understanding and Treating Trauma in Military Children on Thursday, October 2, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Redmond Room, St. Joseph Hall.

The training will explore the potential traumas suffered by children whose family members serve in the military. Military kids face unique stressors that have the potential to impact their emotional, social, cognitive, and behavioral functioning and this training will show ways to recognize and assess for symptoms of trauma and other psychological issues specific to this population.

Kelly M. Landman, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology at Chestnut Hill College, will present the training. At CHC, she teaches numerous undergraduate psychology courses which include Child Psychopathology, Child Development and Abnormal Psychology. Dr. Landman also serves as the dissertation chair for doctoral students in the College’s Psy. D. program, and has more than 10 years of experience conducting assessments and providing therapy to children, teens, adults and families with a variety of pressing concerns. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and on education.com, regularly presents at local and national conferences, and provides outreach services to grade schools and high schools in the Philadelphia area.

Currently, Dr. Landman is in the process of becoming a contracted mental health evaluator to provide mental and behavioral health screenings for members of the Army National Guard.

Registration is required at least two weeks in advance for all members and guests who plan to attend the workshop. Please email Nancy DeCesare, IHM, Ph.D., and Director of The Soldiers Project PA, at decesaren@chc.edu to register and to receive CEU credits for the training.
