Music Department to Welcome Maeve Hoglund for Concert and Master Class

In partnership with Music and Arts, Chestnut Hill College will welcome critically acclaimed soprano Maeve Hoglund to the campus to perform a concert on Sept. 9, 2014 at 7 p.m. and offer music department students a master class on Sept 10, 2014 at 2 p.m.

A native of Olympia, WA, Maeve Hoglund received her Bachelor of Music in voice from the New England Conservatory in Boston where she studied opera and jazz performance. Following her undergraduate study, Hoglund traveled to Europe, studying in both France and Italy. When she returned home to the U.S., she attended the Manhattan School of Music and received her Master's Degree.

Hoglund has performed at Carnegie Hall and with Company XIV, Cutting Edge Opera and Gotham Chamber Opera. She toured in London as a member of the American Classical Orchestra and made her New York opera debut as a member of the Vertical Player Repertory. It was for her performance as Antonia in Les Contes d'Hoffmann that she was praised  by the New York Times as "a consistently vivid actress having a rich, penetrating voice."

In addition to her performing repertoire, Hoglund is also well-regarded as a music educator. Currently she is a featured singer and educator for jazz performance at Lincoln Center's Jazz Academy and is also a featured vocalist as part of the Passionist's Sunday Mass which can be seen on ABC Family on Sunday morning.

Hoglund is the winner of the Giulio Gari Foundation Scholarship and the Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship Competition. She is currently working on her debut album which is scheduled for release this fall.

The concert performance will take place Tuesday night, Sept. 9, at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Donations in support of CHC's music department will be accepted. The master class is also open to the public and for more information, please contact Dr. David Samson, Department Chair, by phone at (215) 248-7164.
