IDHP Students Tour Chestnut Hill Community as Part of New Learning Initiative

A group of students from the Interdisciplinary Honors Program at Chestnut Hill College will tour the Chestnut Hill community and visit various local organizations Aug. 21. This new activity is called Chestnut Hill as Text (CHAT) and the students, in groups of three or four students, will visit the Morris Arboretum, Woodmere Art Museum, Chestnut Hill Community Association, theChestnut Hill Local newspaper, Chestnut Hill Business Association, Chestnut Hill Historical Society, Friends of the Wissahickon, Weaver’s Way Cooperative Association, Philadelphia Print Shop, Ltd. and United Cerebral Palsy of Philadelphia and Vicinity.

“We want the students to become familiar with the richness that is our neighborhood and orient the first-year students to the program,” said CHC Professor of Physics and Director, Interdisciplinary Honors Program, Kathleen Duffy, SSJ, Ph.D. “It’s good for them to get to know the area and the possibilities available to them,” she said.

In preparation for this day, the students will read several chapters from the book, “Suburb in the City: Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, 1850-1990,” written by CHC history professor, Dr. David Contosta. At the end of the day, the students will return to the College to share what they have learned with one another.
