Griffins Open Inaugural Track Season at Collegeville Classic

Philadelphia, PA – (1/24/2014) – The Collegeville Classic held on January 24 at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., marked the first competition for the Chestnut Hill College men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track team’s inaugural season. The Griffin men placed 10th out of 10 teams with 22 total points while the Griffin women ranked 15th of 15 teams with four points. West Chester University claimed first in the women’s team results, 90.50 total points, while their men’s side tied York College and St. Joseph’s University with 71 total points apiece. 

The Chestnut Hill College women’s track team competed in seven events with all four of their points coming in the 4x400 Meter Relay as freshman Courtney Glennan (Sewell, N.J.), sophomore Rachel Barnett (Schnecksville, Pa.), freshman Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.), and junior Lauren Sitler (Douglasville, Pa.) placed 6th of 6 with a time of 5:10.84. Freshman Darby White (Auburn, Pa.) was the Griffins lone competitor in the 200 Meter, she finished 37th with a time of 33.24. In the Women’s 400 Meter, she and Sitler (Douglasville, Pa.) finished back-to-back with Sitler placing 20th with a run of 1:17.79 and White crossing 21st with a time of 1:17.85. Barnett paced the Griffins in the Women’s 800 Meter race with a time of 2:55.70 and a 35th place finish. Senior Dana Klepadlo (Pittston, Pa.) was right behind her, 2:55.78 for 36th place, and freshman Susan Abraham (Staten Island, N.Y.) not long after, 3:07.92, crossing the finish line in 42nd place. Sophomore Samantha McCarthy (Woodstock, Ga.) ran the Women’s 1 Mile in 6:35.10 for a 28th place run while freshman Morghan Green (Fountain Hill, Pa.) recorded the same finish in the Women’s Shot Put with a throw of 7.18 meters. In the Women’s High Jump, the efforts of freshman Courtney Williams (Media, Pa.), McBride, and Glennan, rendered fruitless.

The men’s track team also participated in seven events, scoring in all but two en route to their 10th place finish. The bulk of the men’s points came in the relays with freshman Adrian Adams (Bellmawr, N.J.), junior Adam Drabinski (Drexel Hill, Pa.), sophomore Adam Purnell (Philadelphia, Pa.), and freshmen Brandon Shannon (Moscow, Pa.) and Samuel Mondello (Staten Island, N.Y.) earning the Griffins earning eight points in the Men’s Distance run with a time of 11:42.56 (2 of 2), six points in the Men’s 4x800 Meter race with a time of 9:02.56 (3 of 5), and two points in the Men’s 4x400 Meter event with a time of 3:53.42 (8 of 10).

Adams threw the shot put 1.78 meters for a 4th place finish and five points in the Men’s Shot Put while Egbosimbah earned the other Griffin point with a 7.35 sprint and an 8th place finish in the Men’s 60 Meter dash. The Griffins went scoreless in the Men’s 200 Meter and 400 Meter runs.

The men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track teams compete next at the Albright College Invitational on Saturday, February 1.
