College to Host Writer’s Forum

PHILADELPHIA, PA- Chestnut Hill College will host a Writer’s Forum on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 5:15 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. in the Redmond Room, St. Joseph Hall. Now in its second year, the Writer’s Forum, sponsored by the Department of English and Communications, allows students and aspiring writers the opportunity to learn about different types of creative writing through a question and answer session with a panel of seasoned writers. 

Novelist Justin Kramon, MFA, and poet Dorian Geisler, MFA, will be featured on this year’s panel. Kramon and Geisler will read original work and respond to audience questions. 

About the Authors: 

Justin Kramon is the author of the novels “Finny” (Random House, 2010) and “The Preservationist” (2013, Pegasus Crime). A graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Kramon has published stories in Glimmer Train, Story Quarterly, Boulevard, Fence, TriQuarterly, and Alaska Quarterly Review. He has received honors from the Michener-Copernicus Society of America, Best American Short Stories, the Hawthornden International Writers' Fellowship, and the Bogliasco Foundation. He has taught undergraduate and graduate fiction writing courses at the Gotham Writers' Workshop, Haverford College, the University of Iowa, Arcadia University, and other organizations. Justin will read an excerpt from his new novel, “The Preservationist.” 

Dorian Geisler is a poetry instructor at Arcadia University and is the editor and co-founder of HOOT, a local literary magazine that launched in October 2012. Geisler studied creative writing and philosophy at U.C Berkeley and was a New York City Teaching Fellow, also teaching high school English after his graduation. He holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where he received instruction from poets James Galvin, Elizabeth Robinson, and Cole Swensen. His poetry has appeared in The Believer, LVNG, and other publications.
