Chestnut Hill College to Host Internationally Acclaimed Speaker

Philadelphia, PA- Chestnut Hill College’s Institute for Forgiveness and Reconciliation will host internationally acclaimed speaker, Joan Chittister, OSB, Ph.D., on Sunday, September 25, at 1:30 p.m., in Sorgenti Arena.

Chittister will deliver the lecture “Scarred by Struggle,” which will reflect on the hope and compassion that’s born only through enduring the scars and embracing struggle.

As a Benedictine Sister of Erie, Pa., Joan Chittister has focused her life’s work on the development of contemporary spirituality, a redefinition and renewal of Benedictine life seekers today and justice for the oppressed and marginalized, particularly women and the poor. Chittister has published more than 50 books, and her column for the National Catholic Reporter, “From Where I Stand” is widely acclaimed.

“As a woman who is steeped in Benedictine spirituality, Joan Chittister has faithfully followed the mandate of St. Benedict to ‘listen to the ear of your heart,’ says Cathy Nerney, SSJ, Ph.D., director of the Institute for Forgiveness and Reconciliation. “She has discovered that the place of suffering is the place where compassion is born.”

For more information, or to register for the event contact forgive@chc.edu or call 215.248.7099. The event is open to the public, and a “free will offering” may be given at the door.
