Chestnut Hill College Appoints Dr. Wolfgang Natter Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty

College President Carol Jean Vale, SSJ, Ph.D, announced today the appointment of Dr. Wolfgang Natter as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, effective July 15, 2014.

Dr. Natter has served for the past four years as Dean, School of Arts and Sciences, St. Bonaventure University.  Prior to that he served in both administrative and faculty capacities at the University of Kentucky and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.  Dr. Natter holds an earned doctorate in German studies from The Johns Hopkins University, an M.A. in German literature from The Johns Hopkins University, and a B.A. in German literature and European history from Wesleyan University, where he graduated as a member of the prestigious national honor societyPhi Beta Kappa.  As a faculty member, Dr. Natter earned tenure and promotion in three distinct disciplines and holds the rank of full professor.

Dr. Natter’s extensive experience with curriculum development, interdisciplinary initiatives, graduate programs, conference/workshop/lecture series planning, grant application and management, online education, strategic planning, collaborative governance, and accreditation, to name only a few of his areas of competence, make him the best choice for Chestnut Hill College at this time in its history.

In addition, his outreach to business, corporations, etc., to obtain internships for students has been extensive and successful.  Moreover, at his urging and with his assistance, students have been encouraged and motivated to apply for prestigious fellowships and awards.  Two of his great interests are global learning and diversity, witnessed by his own teaching and research outside of the United States.  Global learning and diversity are in agreement with and play a pivotal role in the College’s new strategic plan recently approved by the board of directors in May.

“It is a privilege and a blessing to have been asked to serve the College community as Chestnut Hill’s new Vice President and Dean of Faculty, said Dr. Natter.  “Chestnut Hill College is an institution and a community devoted to uncommon excellence, whose educational goals are deeply compelling.  I very much look forward to working with my colleagues to sustain and enhance that excellence on behalf of our students and the entire community.”
