IHC Open Classes in the Art Studio: "The Prisoner's Dilemma and the Tragedy of the Commons" with Professor Steve Martin

March 18, 2024 - 11:00am to 12:15pm
Location:
Art Studio, 5th Floor, St. Joseph Hall

Integrated Humanities invites all students, faculty, and staff to our open classes held in the Art Studio on the 5th floor of St. Joseph's Hall.  These are regular classes focused on a compelling topic.  You are warmly invited to attend.  Although not referring exactly to his Economics Nobel Prize-winning theory, the “bar scene” from the John Nash biopic, A Beautiful Mind, brilliantly depicts the dynamics of competition vs cooperation through the “prisoner’s dilemma” game theory. We will play a card-based version of the game in class and investigate its implications for different notions of self-interest and accomplishing the common good in different spheres.

Open/Applies to:
