This workshop is based on the nationally recognized Campus Connect suicide prevention program of Syracuse
University. The training addresses more than just statistics and facts about suicide. Through the use of experiential exercises
and frank discussion about gatekeepers’ own fears, this training prepares gatekeepers for the anxiety-provoking situation of
interacting with a person who may be suicidal and allows gatekeepers to overcome the obstacles that may leave a person in crisis potentially feeling misunderstood, judged, invalidated, or dismissed. Through connection, gatekeepers may ease the feelings of isolation of a suicidal person and allow the person to more fully benefit from referral and connection to professional resources.
