The 1619 Project is an ongoing project, developed by Nikole Hannah-Jones, writers from The New York Times, and The New York Times Magazine that began in August 2019, the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. It “aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.”
In order to fully appreciate the panel discussion, it is suggested that attendees become familiar with The 1619 podcast beforehand. Listen to ‘1619,’ a podcast, a series of six episodes, or read the transcripts by clicking the icon to the right of the play bar.
