FAQs for Online Coursework and Resources

Frequently Asked Questions for Students General Questions Are there confirmed cases of COVID-19 on campus? At this time, there are no known presumptive or confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Chestnut Hill College. The decision to suspend normal operations and switch to alternative course delivery is being made out of an abundance of caution. The health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and all persons affiliated with the College are paramount. We continue to monitor guidance from the Philadelphia Health Department, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and colleagues at local institutions who are grappling with the same unprecedented challenges. What do I do if I have left campus and get sick? You should contact your primary care physician for instructions. If you do not have a primary care physician, and are experiencing mild symptoms, you should call an urgent care or emergency room for instructions. If you are experiencing worsening or life threatening symptoms call 911. If you are tested and confirmed positive for COVID-19, please contact Deirdre Horan, Director of Student Health Services, at horand@chc.edu. Academic and Career Support How will I access the Logue Library? While the Logue Library building will remain closed in order to support efforts of social distancing, the library is accessible online. Please visit library.chc.edu for access to online resources, including virtual connections to librarians. I want to register for classes but my account says it is on hold, what do I do? If myCHC indicates that you have a financial or a business hold, you must contact Student Accounts at accounts@chc.edu to find out what you need to do in order to lift the hold. If campus is closed, how do I get in touch with faculty and staff? The best way to contact most people will be via e-mail. Please use their @chc.edu email address. Offices also have plans in place to check voicemail remotely. If you call an office, please listen carefully to their out of office voicemail as it may give instructions on the best way to reach them during this time. When will in person classes resume? We hope to resume in person classes on Tuesday, April 14th. This date is subject to change based on evolving guidance from the Philadelphia Department of Health and the CDC. We will make a decision by noon on Friday, April 3, 2020 in order to allow people time to make travel plans. Are internships and student teaching canceled? You should check with your internship site or school district for details related to your specific situation. For student teachers, the state of Pennsylvania has closed all schools for at least two weeks, but schools are offering online and alternative instruction for students. Please contact your cooperating teacher and Nancy Levitt (levittn@chc.edu) for specifics. Some internship placements may currently be offering work from home options. If myCHC indicates that you have a financial or a business hold, you must contact Student Accounts at accounts@chc.edu to find out what you need to do in order to lift the hold. If you are unsure of how to register, your faculty or staff advisor can help you with the process. I don’t have a computer or internet access at home. How will I complete my courses online? We know that working away from campus may be a challenge for some students. You should send a message to your professors and advisors and share your concerns, and they will respond with some proposed solutions or reach out to their Dean’s Offices to let them know. Your professors will help you create a plan to continue your learning in your courses. I am struggling in one or more of my courses and I normally rely on the Math Center, Writing Center, or Disability Resource Center. What can I do now? These Centers have established plans to help you while you are a virtual Griffin. Please contact them as you normally would for setting up an appointment and they will get back to you with next steps. Student Life and Athletics When can I move back into my residence hall space? We want to honor the hard work of our graduating students and celebrate the important contributions they have made to CHC. We will do everything in our power to hold Commencement and related celebrations (i.e. Grad Finale, Senior Dinner, Senior Send-Off, SCPS Reception, Baccalaureate Mass). However, recommendations emerging form public health organizations are calling large gatherings like these into question for an indefinite period. No decisions have been made at this time and we will continue to closely monitor the situation and communicate directly with our graduating students.
