Chestnut Hill College is pleased to announce that it has received a $3.2 million gift from the estate of Regina M. Cuta-Papa, M.D. The generous contribution is the largest ever faculty-focused gift in the College’s history, and through it, will allow the creation of an endowed chair in the sciences, the College's first.

“We are thankful for Dr. Cuta-Papa’s thoughtful, forward-thinking contribution to the College, and we look forward to honoring her generosity by establishing an endowed chair in the sciences, which will be the first endowed chair in Chestnut Hill College’s storied history,” says Brian McCloskey, D.M., MBA, acting president and vice president for financial affairs.

Graduating cum laude from Chestnut Hill College in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Cuta-Papa cherished her time at the College. Active in the CHC community, Cuta-Papa was a member of the Kappa Gamma Pi Honor Society, served as vice president of the Science Club, was a member of the German and Glee Clubs, and was also the first woman awarded the Philadelphia "Engineers Award" at the College.

Longtime friend and steward of Cuta-Papa’s ongoing relationship with Chestnut Hill College, Mary Theresa Shevland, SSJ, shared that “Regina loved Chestnut Hill College and the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Her generosity and humility were hallmarks of the wonderful person she was to all.”

This important contribution underpins the College’s strong footing in the sciences. As Chestnut Hill College looks to kick off a yearlong celebration of its 100th anniversary this fall, this gift serves as a timely indicator of the passion and commitment of its extraordinary alumnae/i.

“The generosity and thoughtfulness of our alumnae has always impressed me," says Cathy Lockyer Moulton ’92, Chair of the College’s Board of Directors. "This gift is particularly meaningful in that it ensures the long-term health of the sciences at Chestnut Hill College for many years to come.”
