Computer and Information Technology is more than just data processing and web surfing. It's about how computers operate and how they are used in many areas of daily life. Majors learn about computer hardware, computer software, web development and design, program design, multimedia development, managing information systems and digital forensics.
Why Study Computer and Information Technology at CHC?
At CHC, you will become familiar with a variety of hardware and software technologies and gain enough background and problem-solving experience to adapt to the technologies you will meet in the workplace. Along with classroom instruction from highly qualified and experienced professors, you will earn a well-rounded liberal arts education that will help you think for yourself and overlay your career decisions with an ethical perspective.
Students who major in Computer and Information Technology select a concentration in one of three areas: Software Development, Web Development, or Web Design. The major prepares students for the field of computer and information technology by introducing them to a variety of current hardware and software technologies. It presents sufficient background and experience in problem solving to enable students to learn and adapt to new technologies they will meet in the workplace. The major provides a solid preparation for students interested in pursuing graduate study in the areas of web and software development.
Student Activities:
Qualified students may be invited to join Epsilon Pi Tau, the International Honor Society for Technology. Students need to complete at least 18 credits of computer science, computer technology, digital forensics, and/or cyber security courses and maintain a Career GPA of 3.25 and a GPA of 3.25 in the Major. Eligible students are also required to be in the top 35% of their class and have approval of the Program.
Students who enjoy programming are welcome to become members of the Programming Team. The team competes in Programming Contests sponsored by the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges. The team holds weekly practices in preparation for the Programming Contests.

Career Outlook
Computer-related jobs are projected to increase much faster than the average of other occupations according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook. To be part of this exciting field, you will need a solid background in computers. You will need work experience, such as an internship, and a bachelor's degree to be ready for many of these positions. You can also pursue graduate study in computer technology or a computer-related field. You will be able to apply your computer knowledge to many areas of industry. Many technology positions involve teamwork and collaboration with colleagues. Jobs in computer technology are varied and are constantly changing as technology becomes part of every aspect of life. All types of organizations require people with computer knowledge. Job titles vary from one company to another; listed below are some common computer positions:

Internships:
A computer and information technology major can intern in the technology department of for-profit and non-profit organizations, in educational computer labs, and at government agencies. This increases the opportunities for our computer and information technology students to gain valuable real-world experience through special internships. In fact, it is not uncommon for an internship to lead to full-time employment after graduation for CHC grads.
