Residence Halls

CHC’s residence halls, each with a distinct personality, offer single, double and triple rooms, as well as suites.

Each student will have a standard twin bed, a desk with chair, a dresser, and a closet or wardrobe. Each room is equipped with a phone jack with a campus extension already assigned. The halls are equipped with Wi-Fi access, so your laptop or PC is good to go from most locations in the hall. Rooms are tiled in Fontbonne and Fournier Halls, while Fitzsimmons Hall has carpeted floors.

Roommates share a cable television port and phone port with campus extension/voicemail.

Fontbonne Hall

Built in 1961, Fontbonne Hall was named after Mother Saint John Fontbonne, who restored the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph in Lyon, France in 1808, after their dispersal during the French Revolution.

Fontbonne Hall is a co-educational residence hall for first year students. Rooms are mostly double occupancy with common hall bathrooms on each floor. A few single rooms are available.

Fournier Hall

Named in honor of Mother Saint John Fournier, the foundress of the Philadelphia Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1847, Fournier Hall was originally the Mount Saint Joseph College, founded in 1928, which officially became Chestnut Hill College in 1938.

Fournier Hall is a co-educational first year and upperclassman building, with new transfer students also housed here. There are many room options, including singles, doubles, and triples, as well as suited rooms (bedrooms connected by a bathroom).

How do college breaks work when I live on campus?

Residence halls close during all college breaks, including fall break, Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, and Easter break.

Students are expected to vacate the residence halls prior to the start of each break and will not have access to their hall until the conclusion of the break. Students should plan early to solidify their travel arrangements.

Students can leave all their belongings in their residence hall room during breaks, though they are encouraged to take any valuables with them if they feel more comfortable having those items in their possession as residence halls will be closed.

Review the CHC Student Handbook for additional details about residence hall closings during college breaks. The Residence Life staff will also communicate with students via email with details about college breaks.

Can I stay on campus during the summer?

Summer housing is not currently available at CHC. Students will be notified if this changes.

What residential accommodations are offered?

It is important to us all that students can successfully learn AND live at CHC. This includes concerns related to medical impacts that could make living on campus an increased challenge for students.

Students can talk with staff in the Center for Accessibility & Learning Services (CALS) regarding questions about the potential for housing-based medical accommodations to live on campus.

Visit the CALS webpage for additional information, email the team at CALS@chc.edu, or talk with staff in their office located in Saint Joseph Hall 240.

Can I park on campus?

Parking on campus is reserved for upperclass students (juniors & seniors) as well as commuter students.

First- and second-year residential students are not permitted to have cars on campus at this time.

More information about parking and purchasing a permit is available on the CHC Parking Website.

What can I do for fun with activities and events at CHC?

There are LOTS of ways to have a fun and exciting Griffin experience at CHC!

Resident Assistants (RAs) plan social and educational activities for residents throughout the semester that strengthen the community connection.

Staff in the Office of Student Engagement & Leadership oversee all student organizations on campus and plan special events both on and off campus for students. Check out the Clubs and Programs webpage for more details!
