Chestnut Hill College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Brian McCloskey as its eighth president. The Board of Directors, along with the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia, released the decision on August 4th following Dr. McCloskey’s successful tenure as Interim President and Vice President for Financial Affairs/CFO.
Carol Steinour Young ’82, Board of Directors Chair, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Dr. McCloskey has been an exceptional leader throughout his time at Chestnut Hill College. He has embraced the College’s mission of providing transformative, holistic education, the pursuit of just relationships, innovative thinking, and responsible action toward a more unified global society and a sustainable earth. Coupled with his financial expertise and relentless pursuit of excellence, Dr. McCloskey is the ideal choice to guide Chestnut Hill into the future.”
The Leadership Team of the Sisters of Saint Joseph also voiced their strong support, saying, “During his time as interim president, Dr. McCloskey demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm, expertise, and a deep commitment to both the College and the mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. We are confident that under his leadership, Chestnut Hill College will continue to thrive.”
Dr. McCloskey holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Accounting from Jefferson University (formerly Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science), an MBA from St. Joseph’s University, and a Doctorate in Management from the University of Maryland, Global Campus.
In addition to his administrative role, Dr. McCloskey has been an adjunct professor for over 30 years, teaching business, accounting, and budgeting at institutions such as Southern New Hampshire University and Notre Dame of Maryland University, where he designed a doctoral-level course on budgeting and strategic planning in higher education.
Dr. McCloskey shared his excitement and vision for the College, saying, “It is an honor to serve as the eighth president of Chestnut Hill College. I am deeply committed to advancing our mission, which is grounded in the values of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Our focus on serving all people, without distinction, inclusivity, and providing transformative educational opportunities aligns perfectly with my own beliefs about the power of higher education. I look forward to continuing to strengthen our liberal arts foundation while launching innovative programs, such as the new MBA in Strategic Management and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, as well as the Life Skills Program serving the neurodiverse community, all of which respond to the pressing needs of our community.”
In addition to his leadership at Chestnut Hill College, Dr. McCloskey is an active board member of the African Sisters Education Collaborative and serves on the finance committee of the 911Memorial Garden of Reflection, the official Pennsylvania memorial to the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. McCloskey is the proud father to Bailey and Paige, and grandfather to Adalynn. He remains engaged in the local soccer community as a licensed referee and is an ardent supporter of Philadelphia sports.
