Helping Others by Providing Education, Chestnut Hill College Launches NEW H.O.P.E. Scholarship!

"In everything you attempt, hold hope high!" - SSJ Maxim 97

When one has hope, they are said to possess an optimistic state of mind that is based on the expectation of a positive outcome. Every student who comes through the halls of Chestnut Hill College does so with the hope and the expectation of graduating with a degree. For some, however, circumstances necessitate a change in course with plans forced to be put on hold. But that hope of one day returning to school to finish what was started, always remains. Now, that hope will be realized as starting in 2021, Chestnut Hill College began offering the H.O.P.E. Scholarship as a way to give adult learners the resources needed to return to CHC to earn their bachelor's degrees.

In February 2021, Chestnut Hill College launched the “Helping Others by Providing Education” program, officially recognized as the H.O.P.E. Scholarship. Through the generous support of former Board Chair and alumna, Margaret McCaffery ’77, and her husband Michael, the H.O.P.E. Scholarship will support adult students in good standing who are close to the completion of their degrees through the College’s Accelerated Adult Degree Program (AADP). The scholarship will provide financial assistance to students who have completed 75 percent, or 90 credits, of their academic coursework and have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must have been enrolled in the AADP program, must have applied for financial aid by completing the 2020-21 FAFSA (which can be found here), must provide a letter of recommendation, and write a one-page essay on "How a College Education will Impact My Life."

Congratulations to our first cohort of scholars, who graduated in May 2020. You can read more about it here.

Applications for the second cohort of H.O.P.E. scholars are currently under review.

We understand that the decision to return to school and earn your degree can be difficult, especially given the additional challenges during this past year as the pandemic has exacerbated financial, professional, and personal hardships. The H.O.P.E. Scholarship is our commitment to adult learners and the possibilities that come from continuing education. Whether it leads to a promotion at work, a new career path, or simply the enormous satisfaction of completing your degree, we hope this program will be the start of the next great chapter in your life!
