Students, alumni, faculty, and staff are all invited to join in and help celebrate an annual CHC tradition, Christmas/Holiday Decorating Night.
The tradition of Christmas Decorating began in 1924 with the first graduating class of 1928. At the time, only Seniors participated in decorating, and they considered it a gift to the College faculty and administration, especially the Sisters who all lived on campus. For many years, this tradition took place on the Thursday following Thanksgiving and students decorated all night.
Recognizing that there is not much time left in the semester after Thanksgiving Break and before Finals Week, we encourage groups to decorate their assigned areas during our Holiday Decorating Night on Wednesday, November 19th starting at 8:30 pm. We will have hot chocolate, treats, and Christmas music playing throughout the halls, so we hope you can decorate with us in community!
However, we also want to acknowledge that not everyone wants or has the ability to decorate overnight, so groups that sign up for a decorating location will have from Monday, November 17th until Wednesday, December 3rd to complete their areas. Voting will take place on Thursday, December 4th through Friday, December 5th, just in time for Carol Night.
To tie everything together, the theme for this year’s Holiday Decorating will be “Futuristic Holidays”. This theme is building off our recent 100th year celebration. In 2024, we celebrated the past of Chestnut Hill College; now in 2025, we shape the future for another 100 years and beyond. Embrace technology, dream big about what the future holds, and explore the unknown in your design ideas.
Please sign up by Wednesday, November 12th so we can assign groups to a specific area of campus. We will then send groups instructions on borrowing from our extensive Christmas/holiday collection, accessing materials, and guidelines bringing their own supplies. Judging and voting will take place on Thursday, December 4th through Friday, December 5th. There will be prizes for the top 3 teams and some special themed categories for those who exemplify creativity and the theme in their design.
