FAQ

School of Undergraduate Studies FAQ

Should I take the SAT or the ACT? Or both?
We are a TEST OPTIONAL college, but we do accept both SAT and ACT scores. If you choose to take both tests, or retake them, we will consider your highest submitted score.

How important are extracurricular activities and community service on the application?
At CHC, we seek students who contribute to our community both academically and socially. Many of our current students actively participate in various extracurricular activities and community service, which helps them transition smoothly into college life. While these activities are not required, they help us gain a better understanding of who you are as a student.

Does it matter if I went to a private or a public high school?
No, we accept students from both private and public high schools.

What is the difference between a private and public higher ed institution?
The main difference between private and public colleges or universities lies in their funding. As a private institution, CHC benefits from the ability to maintain small class sizes and a highly engaged student body. This allows us to focus on each student individually, from the application process through to graduation. Additionally, our private status enables us to offer competitive merit awards and financial aid packages.

What if I don’t know what I want to major in?
Each year, many students start their college journey undecided. Your freshman year will primarily involve introductory courses that help you explore different fields and connect with professors. Our Career Development office is also available to assist you in making a decision. We suggest choosing a major by the beginning of your sophomore year to ensure you can complete the required courses and graduate within four years.

Am I able to meet with a professor when visiting campus?
Yes, our professors are always interested in meeting new students. If you’d like to meet with a professor during your visit, please inform us in advance so we can check their availability. Schedule a Visit

I took a college course while in high school, will CHC accept those credits?
Yes, CHC will accept any college course credits taken during high school if the course is a level 101 or above and a “C” or better grade was earned. All transcripts must be submitted to the registrar for credit to be received.

When is the deadline to have my application completed?
At CHC, we are rolling admissions, so you can apply at any time. However, we recommend submitting your application in the fall of your senior year to give yourself plenty of time to focus on financial aid in the spring.

How long will it take for me to receive my admissions decision?
Typically, you will receive a decision at a minimum of two weeks after submitting your completed application.

What do I need to complete my application?
To complete your application, we require your high school transcript. Since we are test-optional, SAT or ACT scores are not required. However, you may include optional materials such as a personal essay, letters of recommendation, and/or a resume.

Will my AP credits transfer into college credits?
Yes, AP credits are accepted on a case-by-case basis, with each department having its own criteria for credit acceptance. Typically, a score of 3 or higher will earn elective credit, while a score of 4 or higher can satisfy course requirements. For detailed information on which AP credits will transfer, please reach out to your admissions counselor.
