Beyond what students learn in the classroom, Media and Communication majors are also challenged and tasked to take that information and impart it into real world experience. All majors are required to take at least one internship.
Coupled with the small size of the department and small class sizes, students are not only given one-on-one attention and mentoring but they are also encouraged and able to get involved in student activities. These communication activities include:
CHC-TV - The College's closed circuit TV news program provides students the opportunity to report on stories in the field, record segments in the studio, hone interviewing skills and develop a knowledge of the technology for editing, lighting, cameras, mics and various other studio equipment used in a television broadcast.
The Griffin - CHC's student-run newspaper is the perfect place for journalism students to get a start. You'll be able to generate story ideas, write or edit articles and more in both an online and print format. The newspaper is also great for students interested in photography or In-Design.
The Grackle - A literary magazine for the students, the Grackle appeals to any students interested in editing and working with a team on selection and publication of pieces.
Additionally, students who qualify by having completed 60 semester credits, 12 of which are in communication and who have an overall GPA of 3.0 and major GPA of 3.25, may be invited to join Lambda Pi Eta, the National Honor Society for Communication Studies.
