The Center for Data and Society (D&S) is a faculty collaboration among the computer, mathematical, and social sciences. It includes disciplines ranging from math and computer science, through to international affairs and political science studies, plus newly emerging areas like cybersecurity and digital forensics. This interdisciplinary work captures today’s ever-evolving technological and global society. By helping students synthesize, analyze, and integrate “real-world” examples, the Center investigates how data and information can be best used to understand the communities in which we live.

80 Years of ENIAC: Revisiting the Legacy of the ‘ENIAC 6’ with Author, Kathy Kleiman
Chestnut Hill College will celebrate and honor the 80th Anniversary of the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) during a conversation with Kathy Kleiman about the computer and its all-female programming team. The conversation will honor the six women ENIAC programmers including two alumni from Chestnut Hill College, Kathleen McNulty ’42 and Frances Bilas ’42.
Kathy Kleiman, author of Proving Grounds: The Untold Story of the Six Women Who Programmed The World’s First Modern Computer is an author, storyteller, historian, accomplished professor and lawyer at American University (Washington, DC), teaching internet technology and governance. Her research and writing over the years helped tell the story of the once-top-secret ENIAC project and the stories of the ENIAC 6, untold for decades.
