Dr. Carmen Villegas Rogers, Professor of French, Italian, and Spanish, has been at Chestnut Hill College since 2007. Prior to CHC, she had taught graduate and undergraduate language courses at large state universities including The University of Georgia, Louisiana State University, and University of Tennessee. She also served as an Associate Professor at Xavier University of Louisiana, an HBCU institution in New Orleans, for 14 years.
Her publications have appeared in Hispania, The French Review, and Foreign Language Annals among other journals. Dr. Rogers’ research interests range from questions on the African heritage in Latin America to various linguistic and pedagogical topics related to her classes. She has presented numerous papers at national and international conferences including the AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese) meetings in Panama and Puerto Rico as well as the AATF (American Association of Teachers of French) convention in Canada. Dr. Rogers has taught a wide range of courses in French, Spanish, and Italian with focus on cultural studies and communicative language. Spanish for Heritage Speakers, Spanish for Educators, and Advanced Conversation Through Film are some of the courses she has developed and expanded in response to certain students’ interests.
