Jacki Reich (Political Science and International Affairs)

Paper Presentation at the 2023 Pennsylvania Political Science Association Annual Meeting, Shippensburg University, Pennsylvania: “Head of State vs Head of Government: A Lens for Considering Trump’s Presidency.” The thesis: The importance of the more symbolic Head of State function for a well-functioning democracy is under-appreciated as a criterion for chief executive.

Two-week Study Abroad Global Studies courses (May 2023 and March 2024) in Bruges, Belgium “Globalization and Migration.” The thesis: A short-term credit-bearing study abroad program can significantly expand opportunities for internationalizing our student body. Many of our students would like a study-abroad experience but either cannot afford the time or the money for the traditional semester-long format. The two-week 3 credit study abroad course offers another way students can take a study abroad experience that significantly broadens their global awareness. The 2023 experience was a pilot program designed mostly by me. The 2024 experience was broadened (thanks to an Erasmus grant obtained by CHC partner Howest University) to include students and faculty from Makerere University in Uganda, still using the course framework developed by me the year before. Plans to continue this program are already in place for March 2025.
