2009 Eleanore Dolan Egan '28 Award

PEGGY JACKSON QUINN '64

When she accepted nomination to the Alumnae Association board of directors more than 30 years ago, Peggy Quinn was remembered as saying, “Where Chestnut Hill College is concerned, I just can’t say ‘no.’” Association past president Elaine Bennett Davey ’65 observes that she’s not certain Peggy has ever refused, “though 45 years have presented myriad opportunities.”

Peggy Jackson Quinn, Class of 1964, became active in the Alumnae Association early on and has served on virtually every committee and has performed almost every volunteer job possible. A sampling includes:

  • Alumnae Association Board of Directors
  • Class of 1964 Officer
  • Reunion Weekend Committee (numerous)
  • Vice President, Alumnae Association Board of Directors (1982-1984)
  • President, Alumnae Association Board of Directors (1986-1988)
  • Chair and Host, Summer Party at the Shore (1988, 1989)
  • Chair, Art/Auction Committee (twice)
  • Chair, Sr. Matthew Anita Farewell Celebration Dinner (1992)
  • Chair, CHC 75th Anniversary Gala Committee (2000)
  • Nominating Committee (numerous)
  • Bylaws Committee (2006-2008)

From the early days of the newly formed Delaware County Chapter to her most recent service on the Association Bylaws Committee, Peggy has earned the respect and gratitude of those serving with her.

Association past president Barbara D’Iorio Martino ’60 describes Peggy as a “loyal alum and volunteer to the Association since graduation…giving long and exceptional service to Chestnut Hill College.”

Linda Smith Williamson ’60 captures the Peggy Quinn whom so many know as one who gives “outstanding, enthusiastic service to CHC…truly constant, never taking a vacation from CHC.” In fact, Linda recalls, Peggy could be seen on the beaches and tennis courts of Avalon, New Jersey, selling $50 raffle tickets for what was the annual December fundraiser. She not only sold a hefty number on her own, but she also recruited others to do so, as well, all the while talking up her alma mater to all who would listen. This Latin major and veteran teacher certainly had no problem communicating what she wanted…all for the benefit of her loved Chestnut Hill.

The Chestnut Hill College Alumni Association is proud to name Margaret Jackson Quinn, Class of 1964, recipient of the 2009 Eleanore Dolan Egan ’28 Award for Outstanding Service to Chestnut Hill College.
