CATHERINE LOCKYER '92
The Chestnut Hill College Alumni Association announces the selection of alumna Catherine Lockyer, Class of 1992, as the recipient of the 2008 Eleanore Dolan Egan ’28 Award for Outstanding Service to Chestnut Hill College. Ms. Lockyer was honored for her 10 years of service to the College in various volunteer and leadership capacities, including serving as a member of the College’s board of directors.
Catherine graduated in 1992 with a degree in political science and served as class president in her junior year, president of the Student Government Association in her senior year, and was also Head Delegate for the College’s first foray into the National Model United Nations competition. She was also a campus ministry volunteer for four years and served as an orientation leader for two. A resident of Wynnewood, Catherine is today an accomplished businesswoman at the helm of a real estate management firm and a devoted mother to her young children.
Her volunteerism at Chestnut Hill College began almost 10 years ago, but took greater shape in 2000 when she accepted an invitation from the College president to serve on the All-Women’s Golf Invitational Committee in celebration of the College’s 75th anniversary.
She responded to the task by enthusiastically obtaining patrons, sponsors and prizes, and by helping the College create a positive atmosphere for building new relationships at the event. She went on to co-chair the third annual golf invitational, which later changed into an art auction, and more recently, a spring casino fundraiser event. This year’s event, “An Emerald Evening,” which Ms. Lockyer was committee chair, attracted a record number of guests and volunteers. “The great success this event has enjoyed is in large part due to Cathy’s outstanding leadership as committee chair,” observed alumni association president Joanne Fink ’76. If it weren’t for Cathy’s vision and ability to dream big, this event would have never been what it is today.” Ms. Lockyer also served on the Gala Celebration Committee to mark the 80th anniversary of the College’s founding.
In addition to her efforts on various event committees, she has also been a dedicated member of the College’s board of directors for the past six years. “I have come to know Cathy as a loyal alum and an energetic member…she has taken an active role in the committees she served: the Physical Plant and the Development Committees, says Barbara D’Iorio Martino ’60, the 2004 recipient of the Eleanore Dolan Egan Award, and also the upcoming chair of the Chestnut Hill College Board of Directors.” What’s more, Barbara notes, “Cathy has espoused the inclusive mission of the College with its Catholic identity while remaining true to her non-Catholic heritage.”
“Cathy’s legacy extends far beyond the spring fundraiser, and far beyond her seat on the College’s board of directors,” says Amy McLeer Frangione ’94, a fellow 10-year volunteer. It grows exponentially, creating a ripple effect of more volunteerism, more good will, and more commitment to Chestnut Hill College. She embodies the spirit of the Eleanore Dolan Egan Award, and she is an inspiration.”
The Eleanore Dolan Egan ’28 Award for Outstanding Service to Chestnut Hill College was introduced in 1999, 70 years after the founding of the Alumnae Association. It is named in memory of the first president of the Alumnae Association, Eleanore Dolan Egan, who was a member of the College’s first graduating class in 1928 and a model of volunteerism.
