Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) Program at College Receives Re-accreditation
Release Date: Wednesday, May 5, 2008
The Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) program at Chestnut Hill College has been re-accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) for the next seven years, the maximum amount of time permitted under APA regulations. Accreditation by the American Psychological Association certifies that Chestnut Hill’s program meets national standards for training in clinical psychology.
Program accreditation through the APA is granted after submission of a self-study by the program, a site visit by three psychologists appointed by APA, and a final vote by the APA Commission on Accreditation. "The granting of re-accreditation for the full term of seven years is affirmation that our program meets rigorous national standards for quality,” says Joseph A. Micucci, Ph.D., ABPP, chair of the Division of Psychology and director of the Psy.D. program. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the faculty, staff, and site supervisors, the success of our graduates, and the support of the College administration.”
The Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) program at Chestnut Hill College was founded in 1997 and was first accredited by the APA in 2004. The program follows a practitioner-scholar training model that aims to prepare students to become clinical practitioners who are competent in assessment and psychotherapy, have a comprehensive and holistic understanding of human behavior, and can effectively integrate the insights of empirical research into their clinical work with clients. Training is based on a unique integration of psychodynamic and family systems concepts. Students in the program may elect to pursue optional concentrations in psychological assessment or family therapy. In addition to extensive experience teaching and mentoring students, all program faculty members are also actively engaged in clinical practice.
