Piano Virtuoso to Perform Concert at Chestnut Hill College

Young-Ah Tak

World-renowned pianist and Steinway artist Young-Ah Tak will perform as part of the College’s Steinway Master Artist series on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m., at the College’s East Parlor, St. Joseph Hall.

Young Ah-Tak is an active chamber musician and has performed collaborations with violinist Robert Mann, cellist Bonnie Hampton, the Ma’alot Quintet and members of the Florestan Trio.

“Just a few moments into Young-Ah Tak’s New York debut recital, one realized that something special was happening; we were in the presence of an extraordinary pianist. After prolonged and well-deserved applause, Ms. Tak’s encore was a mesmerizing performance of Schubert’s Impromptu, Op. 90, No. 3. This was a recital I will long remember,” said the New York Concert Review’s Harry Saltzman.

In addition, a review from the Sarasota-Herald Tribune said, “We heard music of the utmost delicacy alternating with massive statements, all of which was compelling, stimulating and touching.”

Young-Ah Tak has won numerous music competitions that include the International Fulbright Concerto Competition, Hilton Head International Piano Competition, Missouri Southern International Piano Competition, San Antonio International Piano Competition, Germany’s Ettlingen International Piano Competition, Italy’s Valsesia-Musica International Piano Competition and Korea’s Isang Yun International Music Competition.

Young-Ah Tak has played throughout the U.S., Canada, Austria, Germany Italy, Korea and Japan. She has played with symphony orchestras in the U.S. such as Imperial, Lansing, North Arkansas, Roanoke and Venice, and overseas with Filharmonia Pomorska (Poland) and Oltenia Philharmonic (Romania). She has also performed with various orchestras in Korea that include the Busan, Seongnam and Ulsan philharmonic orchestras and Korean Symphony Orchestra. Notable venues where she has graced the stage include Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Boston’s Jordan Hall, and throughout New York City in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts’ Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall.

Young-Ah Tak trained at the Julliard School, New England Conservatory and The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University where she earned a doctor of musical arts in 2013. Tak also became a faculty member of the Preparatory Division of the Peabody Institute and currently serves as artist-in-residence at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla. and teaches at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pa.

Chestnut Hill College was designated an “All-Steinway” school in 2011 and the Steinway Master Artist Series began in 2012, when Steinway artist Meral Guneyman, state artist of the Republic of Turkey, performed at the College.
