PHILADELPHIA, PA – Chestnut Hill College will host the 8th Annual United Nations Conference on Teaching Peace and Human Rights on Friday, March 15, at 9:30 a.m. in the East Parlor, St. Joseph Hall. This conference, a United Nations Academic Impact Event and sponsored by Global Education Motivators (GEM) is for teachers, future teachers, administrators and NGOs to engage in a global dialogue on the importance of human rights education to help achieve a better world for all.

This year’s conference theme, “The Future We Want: A Better World through Human Rights Education” will allow participants to meet and interact with the United Nations on the importance of human rights education and participate in an international videoconference on how to get the future we all want. Along with educators from Canada, Kenya, Mexico, the Philippines, South Sudan, Uganda, and the United States, participants will be above to move their human rights awareness from words to deeds. In addition, conference attendees will be invited in 2014 to present their outcomes at the United Nations and to the world.

Changu Mannathoko, senior advisor for education at UNICEF, will give the keynote remarks. In her current role, Mannaathoko provides support and expertise to countries on issues of gender equity, girl’s education, safety and security in educational environments, HIV and AIDS prevention, and United Nations partnerships for girl’s education (UNGEI).
