Chestnut Hill College Sprint Football Kicks Off with Inaugural Pep Rally

Chestnut Hill College Sprint Football Kicks Off with Inaugural Pep Rally

After announcing its acceptance into the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) back in July, Chestnut Hill College will host its first ever sprint football pep rally on Wednesday, November 4th, at 2:15 PM in the College's Sorgenti Arena. Free food and t-shirts will be available.

Speaking at the pep rally will be President of the College, Sr. Carol Jean Vale, Athletic Director, Lynn Tubman, and the newly appointed head sprint football coach, Mr. Mike Pearson.

A successful and experienced football coach, Pearson has been coaching since 1991. He has coached at both the high school and collegiate level, with his most recent job coming as an assistant coach at Lock Haven University.

Pearson is no stranger to sprint football as he served as the wide receiver, tight end and defensive back coach for the first three seasons of Mansfield University's sprint football program.

Sprint football is an intercollegiate, non-NCAA varsity sport. It is governed by NCAA DI football rules with the exceptions of roster size and a 172-pound weight limit per player. The CSFL, formerly known as the Eastern Lightweight Football League (ELFL), has been around since prior to the start of World War II.

There are currently eight teams in the league. Chestnut Hill College will be the ninth team as of their inaugural season in 2015.

"We're excited to welcome Chestnut Hill College into the league, and to grow the sport of sprint football," said Gene McIntyre, CSFL commissioner and associate athletic director at Army. "This league is comprised of true student-athletes, equally dedicated to school and sport, and Chestnut Hill College will help us carry on a longstanding tradition of football for the right reasons."
