Philadelphia, PA- Thanks to the 2016-2017 Governor’s It’s On Us PA Grant Program and an award of $28,450,  Chestnut Hill College (CHC) is developing the “It’s On Us: Griffin Edition” project  in keeping with the College’s commitment toward ending sexual violence, encouraging positive bystander behaviors and challenging rape language and culture. The Governor’s Office and the Pennsylvania Department of Education have awarded the College this grant in support of CHC as it works to prevent and address sexual assault on campus.

The grant will enable the College to further its goals of bolstering current trainings that will ensure that all students know that non-consensual sex is sexual assault, provide institutional training through the use of outside experts, empower students to spread an It’s On Us message and to challenge normed language that demeans women, discriminates against the LGBT community and creates a culture that discourages victims from reporting.

It’s On Us is an education-based campaign focusing on sexual assault awareness and prevention on college campuses. It’s On Us advocates for a cultural shift surrounding sexual violence by identifying what sexual assault is and the situations in which it is beneficial to step in and prevent sexual assault from happening.

“As an institution we have a deep commitment to ending sexual violence,” says Krista Murphy, Ph.D., dean of student life. “This grant will provide the financial support needed so students can be the voice of the issue and help spread the word.”

The central message of It’s On Us is that we are all part of the solution to sexual violence. In keeping with that spirit, Chestnut Hill College will create an opportunity for students to work closely with faculty and staff on campus to create content that speaks to their peers.

In addition, CHC is choosing to capitalize on recent events in the presidential election and create a “Not In My Locker Room” campaign that matches the goals of It’s On Us. The College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and athletic team captains will work with leadership to develop the campaign in a way that uses language and imaging that speaks to students.
