Chestnut Hill College Psychology Professors Earn Fellowship Status

Chestnut Hill College professors Scott Browning, Ph.D., ABPP, and Joseph A. Micucci, Ph.D., ABPP, have received recognition by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and the American Psychological Association (APA), respectively. Honors such as these can benefit both the professionals who earn them and their respective institutions.

Dr. Browning earned fellow status in ABPP’s Academy of Couple and Family Psychology. ABPP fellow status certifies that professionals in the psychology field are competent and can deliver paramount services. Those certified with the ABPP designation have successfully completed an array of education, training, and experience requirements. Dr. Browning, a member of the College’s faculty for 26 years, is a noted authority on psychological treatment of families and stepfamilies.

He is the co-author of Stepfamily Therapy: A Ten Step Clinical Approach. His other areas of expertise include the development of empathy, children with developmental disorders and training clinicians.

“Dr. Browning brings an unparalleled passion to the Chestnut Hill College community. This passion is unequivocally supported by his knowledge of best and evidenced based practices. His expertise on empathy extends far beyond what he delivers to his clients and is just as genuine, if not more, for his students and colleagues. He has a special way of nurturing and supporting student creativity,” said Dena DiNardo, fifth-year doctoral student.

Dr. Micucci earned fellow status in APA’s Society of Family Psychology (Division 43). Those with fellow status in APA have shown evidence of unusual and outstanding contributions or performance within their field and their work has a national impact. Dr. Micucci is the first faculty member to become a fellow in the Society of Family Psychology and one of only six family psychologists approved for APA fellow status in this field this year. He has been a member of the College’s faculty for 25 years and specializes in areas that include psychological testing, adolescent development, and family therapy with adolescents.

He is the author of The Adolescent in Family Therapy – Harnessing the Power of Relationships. He also focuses his work on gay, lesbian and bisexual issues and will present his work, “Beyond Acceptance: Promoting Second-Order Change in Families with Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Adolescents,” at the Fellows Symposium at the APA’s annual convention next summer in Toronto, Canada.

“Though I have only had Dr. Micucci for less than two months, his excitement and ability to make material related to psychometric theory and psychological assessment accessible, enjoyable, and applicable is already evident. I feel privileged to learn from him and feel comfortable going to him for insight and clarification. To learn from someone who has such an extensive foundation in his field is an honor,” said Keri Smotrich, second-year doctoral student.
