Philadelphia, PA- Inspired by Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families, and the mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Chestnut Hill College’s Institute for Forgiveness and Reconciliation will host Mary Jo Leddy, Ph.D., who will deliver a lecture titled “Seeing the ‘Dear Neighbor’ in Faces Not Like Ours” on Tuesday, November 17, at 7 p.m. at the College’s SugarLoaf Campus.

Pope Francis called for respect for “those considered disposable,” and the Sisters of Saint Joseph recognize each and every person as the “dear neighbor from whom we do not separate ourselves.” Leddy invites us to find God in everyone; especially those who are unlike us in race or creed by combining her experiences with the teachings of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.

Mary Jo Leddy is a tireless advocate for people who have fled brutal dictatorships, war and persecution in their home countries.  She is the founder of Romero House, a Toronto-based community home for refugees. Mary Jo describes her initial experience of working there by saying, “As a Christian, it felt like the Gospel just walked off the page.” Twenty years later, in the faces of refugees, she continues to discover her own calling as a human being and as a Christian.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information visit www.chc.edu/forgive or contact Cathy Nerney, SSJ, Ph.D. at 215.248.7099.
