December 2016

The Chestnut Hill Local highlighted SCPS student, Tarik Mclain, for his perseverance in getting an education.

Jade Logan, Ph.D., ABPP, assistant professor of psychology, was quoted in a Newsworks article about political discussions during Thanksgiving dinner.

Mary Ann Domanska ’03 SGS, unveiled her debut novel, “Emic Rizzle, Tinkerer,” at a Meet the Author event in Mt. Airy. The Chestnut Hill Local has the story.

CBS Philly reported that the Chestnut Hill College men’s basketball team defeated Division I Coppin State. 

November 2016

Jeffrey Carroll, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science, was quoted in a story in The New York Times about the potential for voter fraud in Philadelphia.

Jacqueline Reich, Ph.D., associate professor of political science, was interviewed by Buzzfeed for a voter information video meant to educate and inform young voters and encourage them to get out and vote. See the video here.

Michael Majok Kuch ’08 one of the “lost boys” of Sudan was a guest on WHYY’s Radio Times and discussed the upcoming novel about his experiences written by Harriet Levin Millan.

Cheltenhamtownship.org has the story about Joseph Long ’16 who was recently sworn in as a volunteer auxiliary police officer.

Barbara Lonnquist, Ph.D., chair of the English and communications department, spoke to newsworks.org about familiar women in literature who were featured in this year’s Fringe Festival.

The Chestnut Hill Local highlighted the “Seeing Hope in Color” art exhibit that ARTZ Philadelphia is hosting at the College from through November 18.

Suzanne del Gizzo, Ph.D., associate professor of English and editor of the Hemingway Review, will participate in a panel discussion of nationally known Hemingway scholars at Misericordia University for their Ernest Hemmingway Exhibit. The Citizens Voice and Misericordia University have the story.

Graduate student Rosalind Lucien was featured in The Morning Call for being awarded fellowship support under the Minority Fellowship Program Services for Transition Age Youth Fellowship.

Neal Dhand, M.F.A., assistant professor of communications, was featured by the Chestnut Hill Local  for his feature film, “Crooked & Narrow,” which won the award for Best Editing at the Brooklyn Film Festival.

The Muslim Wellness Foundation hosted a two-day Black Muslim Psychology Conference at the College. The Philadelphia Tribune has the story.

The Chestnut Hill Local recognized Carol McCullough Fitzgerald and her husband, the Honorable James J. Fitzgerald, III, senior judge of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, for receiving Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees at the College’s 89th Commencement.

Kathleen Rex Anderson, Ed.D. ’66, interim vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty, was honored for her contributions to the success of the School of Continuing & Professional Studies. The Bucks County Courier Times has the story.

Elizabeth Herrera ’15, ’16 SGS, was mentioned in the Retrospect for completing her master’s degree in clinical and counseling psychology.

July 2016

David Contosta, Ph.D., professor of history and Woodward family biographer, was quoted in an article about Violet Oakley and the Woodward family collection at the Woodmere Art Museum. The Chestnut Hill Local has the story.

The Chestnut Hill Local and Phillymag.com wrote about Chestnut Hill College as the location for the Woodward family celebration gala dinner.  

The Senior Environmental Corps hosted a field session at CHC. 6ABC has the story.

The Times Tribune reported that Marywood University plans to use a $15.3 million grant to help provide Catholic Sisters in Africa with quality higher education. About three dozen African sisters take classes online at CHC.  

From June 19-27, participants in the Global Solutions Lab at CHC worked to design and develop solutions to end world poverty. The Chestnut Hill Local has the story.

The Colonial listed Chestnut Hill College’s Forensics Science Summer Camp in their special events section.

Giuseppe Galantuomo ’18, was mentioned in the campus notes section of the Reading Eagle for receiving the St. Catherine Medal for Student Achievement. 

 

June 2016

Yolanda Roman ’79, a member of the Gulfport, Fla., council, was highlighted in the Tampa Bay Times

The Reading Eagle mentioned Frank MacGregor’s commitment to attend CHC, where he will major in secondary education/chemistry and run for the cross country and track teams.

Genevieve Sparano ’81, will retire from Glenwood Avenue Elementary school after 25 years. Shore News Today has the story.

The Sunday Dispatch announced that The Wyoming Valley Woman’s Club awarded an educational scholarship to Hayley Norwillo, who will enter the honors program at CHC in the fall.

The Wyoming County Press Examiner interviewed Kailey Reposa, who will attend Chestnut Hill College to study history and play softball in the fall.

Chestnut Hill will host a five-day series of events to mark the contributions of the Woodward family to the town. David Contasta, Ph.D., professor of history, will present “Patrons of the Arts: The Woodwards and Violet Oakley.” The Chestnut Hill Local has the full schedule of events.

Fran Wasserman ’12, SCPS, was highlighted in The Chestnut Hill Local for her non-profit organization, The Baby Bureau, which gives baby bundles to those in need.

Abigail L. Planko ’96, was named new director of the University of Virginia’s Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center. UVA Today has the story.

According to Philadelphia Sinfonia, Danielle Garrett ’00 was named Principal Conductor of the Philadelphia Sinfonia Players, effective September 1.

Philadelphia Magazine mentioned Chestnut Hill College as a newcomer in the Collegiate Sprint Football League in its article that discusses the fact that Princeton University will no longer play sprint football.

CHC was listed as an All-Steinway School in Pennsylvania in The Morning Call.

Jeffrey Carroll, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science, was quoted in Generocity.org about assisting his mentee, Brandon Stokes, with his ideas of creating a social innovation network in Philadelphia. The network would help create startup businesses to help with serious social ills such as homelessness and recidivism.

Fox 43 listed CHC as one of the 50 colleges and schools across Pennsylvania participating in the “It’s on Us” campaign.

Chestnut Hill College and Robert Meyer, Ph.D., professor of biology, were mentioned in Milestones Newspaper, for their collaboration with Germantown’s Senior Environmental Corps.

The Sunday Patriot News mentioned Chestnut Hill College’s Brotherly Love Quidditch tournament and Chestnut Hill’s Harry Potter festival in an article about odd Pennsylvania Festivals.

The Chestnut Hill Local highlighted CHC’s Commuter Assistant Program.

Sister Cathy Nerney, SSJ, Ph.D., was interviewed by the Global Sisters Report for her work as a professional peacemaker.

John Bernhardt ’14 was mentioned by Philly.com as Wissahickon High School’s first-year baseball coach.

Salenai Marie Braswell ’19 was mentioned by The Philadelphia Sun as a scholarship recipient at the 30th annual Madame CJ Walker Luncheon.

Generocity.org included CHC in its guide to LGBTQ services at Philadelphia-area colleges and universities.

Chestnut Hill College was mentioned in the Sunday Star Ledger announcement of Caldwell University’s sprint football team.

February 2016

Former CHC professor, Al Lamperti, Ph.D., was featured in the Springfield Sun for his astronomy hobby, which later turned into his career.

John Ebersole, director of the writing center, recently interviewed actor and writer, James Franco, for New Books in Poetry, a website that features discussions with poets about their new books.

Chestnut Hill College partnered with Montgomery County Community College’s University Center and appeared at their mobile job lab on Feb. 1. The Reading Eagle has the story.

Chelsea Rosiek, former women’s lacrosse coach, was appointed as the women’s lacrosse coach at St. Bonaventure University. The announcement was printed in the Ambler Gazette.

Mainline Today featured Chestnut Hill College in its “ABC’s of Local Colleges” article in mid-December.

In its January 21 issue, the Chestnut Hill Local included a photo caption of Lauren Barrow, Ph.D., assistant professor of criminal justice, and students in her Constitution and Criminal Justice class having a discussion with Philadelphia Deputy District Attorney John Delaney.
