"CHC is a school that sets your dreams on fire."

Jeremy Triplett, Class of 2011
Music Education Major, Concentration in Piano

Jeremy is the Director of Music and organist at St. Rose of Lima Parish in North Wales and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in South Philadelphia, in addition to teaching elementary music at St. Genevieve and Maternity BVM schools. He is also the Assistant Director and accompanist for the Archdiocesan Boy Choir in Philadelphia, a job that has allowed him to travel around the world as well as perform on EWTN for the Children’s Holy Hour.

What makes CHC unique?

"Chestnut Hill is unique because I feel that I have a second family home there. It is a school that sets your dreams on fire. I am grateful to have the opportunity to return as an accompanist for CHC music recitals and for the opportunity as an alumnus to still sing in the community shows which are full of musical students and graduates. This is a wonderful sharing and learning experience for all involved."

What are the benefits of a holistic education?

"Holistic education is based on the principle that students find identity and purpose in life by connecting to the community, nature and humanitarian values. I have found purpose in advancing our society though the growth of musical endeavors. I believe CHC gives you a well-rounded education that allows you to grow in every new situation you encounter. Through keeping every tie, the rope in which we start just gets stronger and stronger!"

Jeremy's Experience
Program Information

A BS in Music Education prepares students to embark on a career which forms not only their professional and personal lives, but also the lives of countless students they will meet through their years of teaching music. A thorough grounding in Music Theory I-IV, History of Music, Counterpoint, Orchestration, Conducting and Music and Technology, plus the "how to teach" courses in every instrument including voice, gives the student the fundamental tools to teach music K-12.

Student Teaching and Student Seminar in senior year culminate their four years of preparation. Through in-depth, disciplined, private study with an expert in his/her field, each student also develops a high quality of personal musicianship on his/her major instrument.

Program Requirements

Music education majors complete all courses and proficiencies for the Bachelor of Music degree. In addition to the music methods courses mentioned above, Music Education majors must successfully complete Praxis Tests I and II to apply for certification in Music Education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (K-12).

For information about major and minor requirements, view the Music section of the catalog.

Class Experiences

Small class size facilitates learning and personal growth. Students are challenged to ask questions, to seek one-on-one help with professors if needed and to use a strong work ethic to reach their career goals. Students learn with highly qualified and experienced professors and performers in the Philadelphia area as their teachers and mentors.

Chestnut Hill College provides an excellent education to prepare students for careers in music education and related fields. In addition to classes and discussion, future teachers have the opportunity for first-hand experience in the music classroom through observations and teaching under the guidance of master teachers.

Chestnut Hill College was named an All-Steinway School in 2011. The designation brands CHC as an institution committed to musical excellence.

Those interested in joining us as Music or Music Education majors must audition for the Music faculty.
