Instructor of Mathematics

Purpose: 

The Center for Data & Society at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Instructor of Mathematics beginning in the Fall of 2023. The position requires teaching a variety of mathematics courses with statistics being a consistent part of the course load.

Chestnut Hill College, founded by the Sisters of Saint Joseph, is an independent, Catholic institution that fosters excellence by providing a holistic education within a strong liberal arts tradition. It prides itself in its mission, collegial atmosphere, and maintaining its small faculty-to-student ratio.

The Center for Data & Society is an interdisciplinary departmental grouping of the mathematical, computer, and select social science departments. It recently initiated a minor in Data Studies for Social Good. The Mathematics department offers majors in Mathematics, Mathematical & Computer Sciences, and Secondary Education in Mathematics.

Recent graduates from the mathematics program have gone on to jobs in technology, secondary education, actuarial science, and data analytics in addition to being accepted to graduate school.

This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, nine-month faculty position. The position is renewable each academic year.

Requirements: 
  • Minimum of Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field. Ph.D. preferred.
  • Classroom teaching experience at a college or university is desirable. 
  • Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment.
  • Experience with learning management systems. Canvas preferred.
Responsibilities: 
  • Responsibilities for this position include teaching (12 credits per semester), scholarship, and service to the College, to the profession, and to the community.
  • Teaching a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses.
  • Responsibilities beyond teaching activities include; participating in professional organizations; developing courses, curriculum, and program materials; advising students; and participating in campus and college events.
  • Support the mission of Chestnut Hill College.

Currently, the College is requiring COVID vaccines for all faculty, staff, and students.  There will be limited exemptions for medical or religious reasons.
