CHC’s Clement Hall Now Open

A ribbon cutting ceremony for Clement Hall took place on Sunday, September 23 at Chestnut Hill College with Sister Carol, Board Chair Cathy Lockyer Moulton and Vice Presidents Lynn Ortale, Susannah Coleman and Dave Woodford doing the honors.

Donors enjoyed a wonderful reception prior to the opening of Clement Hall.  The ceremony was followed by a Donor Recognition Brunch with remarks by Sister Carol and Susannah Coleman, a blessing by Kent Griswold, Ph.D., M.B.A, and featured guest speaker Deborah Doughtery Flint ’59.

The College was pleased to recognize all of the donors who made the renovations possible. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program played a key role in giving the College a $1 million grant to help with the renovations.  Former Governor Ed Rendell was also instrumental in helping to secure these funds.

“Through the generosity of many alumni and friends, we look forward to giving students an even better chance at success now that we have improved our learning environment,” said Susannah Coleman, vice president of the College’s Office of Institutional Advancement. “The renovations are expected to increase student retention and graduation rates.”

Renovations on Clement Hall, which was built in the 1920s, were completed this summer. These included installing state-of-the-art audio visual equipment, improving acoustics, adding energy-efficient windows and HVAC with energy controls, and the reconfiguration of existing restrooms. The total cost of the project was more than $4 million.

Clement Hall was named for Sister Mary Clement Lannen, who, in her desire to promote education, helped the College begin construction on a new building, which eventually became St. Joseph Hall.
