The Office of Residence Life is dedicated to providing a living environment to students that is compatible with students’ needs and consistent with the Mission of the College. The Residence Life staff is crucial to the success of these goals. The Office of Residence Life expects that Residence Coordinators (RCs) will exercise a high standard of moral and ethical conduct in their performance on and off campus and follow all residence life and college policies.
The RC position reports to the Director of Housing & Residence Life and is a part-time, 10-month, live-in position from September 1 – May 17. It is a one-year appointment, requiring a letter of re-application for re-appointment for additional years. RCs supervise undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs) and manage the operations of one or more facilities. Responsibilities include student contact, supervision of staff & hall programs, student discipline, and duty coverage.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Graduate Student enrolled in a full-time graduate/doctoral program at Chestnut Hill College.
- Experience in residence life as a Resident Assistant or related student life position is preferred, but not required.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication, administrative, planning, and programming skills.
- Ability to complete a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal (September 1 – May 17).
COMPENSATION
Salary: $17/hr. Paid out monthly. This position will receive a private, residence hall room with a private bathroom.
Meal plan during the months of employment (September through May).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead, supervise, educate, evaluate, and support a staff of undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs)
- Understand, support, and enforce college and residence life policies as stated in the Student Handbook and Housing Agreement; confront all violations in a professional manner related to college policies and RA staff policies
- Conduct judicial hearings as assigned by the Director of Housing & Residence Life, processing all paperwork effectively and collaborating with fellow hearing officers as appropriate
- Serve in the Administrator On-Call duty rotation with other live-in/live-on staff
- Respond to campus emergencies as needed – both during and outside of the on-call rotation
- Assist RAs on duty to enforce campus policies, including in-person support for alcohol/drug searches
- Work with Lead Resident Assistant (LRA) to develop an RA duty calendar for building, managing & approving duty switch requests as appropriate
- Collaborate with Maintenance and Housekeeping to address building health & safety and student requests
- Conduct weekly walkthroughs of designated residence hall(s) per week to assess the state of the building(s) for health and safety purposes
- Coordinate and be present for all openings/closings each semester and every break period
- Oversee RA staff program implementation including approval of program proposals, organization of budget requests/purchasing, etc.
- Meet with residential students to discuss and offer support regarding residence hall concerns
- Support community development goals of staff and engage in positive student interactions.
- Attend weekly Residence Life Staff Meetings, training sessions, and special events as requested
- Maintain office hours for completion of administrative responsibilities, student meetings, communication with other offices, etc.
- Hold three (3) hours a week of mailroom work under the supervision of the Director of Operations and the Coordinator for Student Engagement & Leadership
- Assist with all functions of the Office of Residence Life, such as staff selection and housing selection
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Housing & Residence Life
- Demonstrate cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to, international students, racial and ethnic minorities, students with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, and other marginalized populations.
