Assistant Professor of History
The Center for Integrated Humanities at Chestnut Hill College invites applications for a Full-Time, Tenure Track, Assistant Professor Faculty Position in the Undergraduate History Department beginning in the Fall of 2025. This is a 9-month appointment.
Chestnut Hill College, founded by the Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1924, is an independent, Catholic institution that strives to foster equality through education. The history program at Chestnut Hill College seeks to demonstrate the importance of knowing the past as a critical tool for understanding the present and moving forward into the future. The program also aims to help a student to become a whole person—someone who can think critically, who asks questions and who is an astute observer of the world. In the process, the student develops analytical skills through research, writing, and oral expression.
Responsibilities:
- Teach courses in support of undergraduate history majors.
- Advise major and minor students in their academic course selection.
- Administer departmental duties such as assessment of the major, supervision of the History Honor Society, hiring adjuncts, scheduling, and curriculum development.
- Perform usual duties associated with a full-time faculty appointment.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in History. ABD will be considered if the dissertation defense is completed before the start date.
- Background in European history and Western civilization.
- Ability to teach undergraduate courses in European history, Western Civilization, and non-American teaching areas.
- Ability to teach some upper-level American history courses would be an asset.
- Strong research background.
