Main Campus Design Approach
Development of the original 'Main' Campus of Chestnut Hill College is limited to a great extend by the Wissahickon Creek floodplain boundary. New building structures are proposed to fill the last remaining open building sites to historic buildings. New buildings will be sited to continue a tradition of a sequence of court yards. Each courtyard will be imbued with its own character depending upon the types of spaces which open to them.
The most significant new building will be a new Student Center built atop a multi-level 550-car parking structure. This will allow for the addition of much needed student life spaces while removing a significant amount of surface parking impervious coverage from the floodplain.
