Liza Alvarado, who is pursuing a master's degree in counseling psychology at the College, was featured as a "Profile of Hope" in the December 22, 2008 of the Times Express in Lehigh Valley.

Local Horror Writer and Chestnut Hill College Alum Featured in Bucks County Papers


David Kempf ’08, a resident of Bucks County and an alumnus of Chestnut Hill’s School of Graduate Studies was featured in an article in the Bristol Pilot about his budding career writing horror fiction. The story was also published in the Advance of Bucks County, Doylestown Patriot, Yardley News, and the New Hope Gazette.

PHENND Conference

Chestnut Hill College will host the annual PHENND (Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development) Conference on February 27, 2009.

The Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development (PHENND) is a consortium of 36 colleges and universities in the greater Philadelphia area. PHENND works with its member institutions to find beneficial community-based service-learning partnerships. The consortium actively seeks to revitalize local communities and schools and foster civic responsibility among the region's colleges and universities.

The conference will cover topics such as volunteer income tax assistance, public benefits campaigns, and financial education. The keynote speaker for the conference will be Karen Gross, president of Southern Vermont College and a leader in academic and community development. Grant Awarded to the College for Service Learning


Chestnut Hill College is in the process of incorporating service-learning across all curriculums, where students will perform community service as part of an academic course. As a member institution of PHENND and Pennsylvania Campus Compact, Chestnut Hill College was chosen as one of eight schools to receive support from the three-year "Learn and Serve America" Grant to support service-learning initiatives on campus. Currently, five service-learning classes are volunteering with several community partners including Roxborough High School, St. Joseph's Villa and the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger. Current and future projects include documenting oral histories of the Sisters of St. Joseph, helping the Impact Thrift Store with business plans, and mentoring high school students through the Heart of the City course.
