Chestnut Hill College in the News
The Chestnut Hill Local published a story in the September 2 edition about the Center in The Park awards given to local businesses and neighbors for their service. The College was honored at the Center's 3rd Annual Music "From the Heart" Concert on Saturday, September 25, at The Germantown Friends School. The award was also mentioned in The Philadelphia Tribune.
The Bulletin Newspaper published a preview of the men's soccer season on their Web site, www.thebulletin.us.
Senior Sharon Bailey, the recipient of the 2010 Matthew Anita MacDonald, SSJ, Ph.D. award at Honors Convocation, was mentioned in the News of Delaware County for her scholastic, leadership, and community service achievements.
The College was featured in a special "Back to School" section of the Chestnut Hill Local in the August 26 edition, which included a history of the College, photographs, and a calendar of upcoming events.
The College was mentioned in a recent article in the Boyertown Area Times which notes the College's involvement in the University Center Initiative at Montgomery County Community College. The new initiative offers bachelor and master's degrees to MCCC students from local colleges on their campus in Pottstown.
John Lukacs, former history professor at the College, was mentioned in the blog, Hard Boiled Poker for a review of his November 1963 article, "Poker and American Character" published in Horizons Magazine.
Alumni in the News
Dr. Mary Virginia Orna, OSU '55, professor of chemistry at the College of New Rochelle, was the featured speaker at the Nell Mondy Lecture Series on September 27, 2010 at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas. Orna is a specialist in the field of color and archaeological chemistry.
Time Out for Sports
The Chestnut Hill Local recently interviewed new men's soccer head coach Keith Cappo for an article about the new leadership and direction of the team..
Carly DiGiovanni was mentioned in a sports wrap up in The Press of Atlantic City for being named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week. Her accomplishment was also mentioned on the CACC Web Site.
The women's volleyball team was mentioned in an article in the Chestnut Hill Local for playing LeMoyne College while hosting the Rams of Philadelphia University.
The women's soccer team was featured in the Chestnut Hill Local for winning their recent match up against Millersville University.

College Professor Endorsed by Yamaha
Edward J. Strauman, Ph.D., assistant professor of music at the College was endorsed by Yamaha as an Artist/Educator. Yamaha only bestows this honor to musicians who represent the elite in their respective field, "who are active, gifted and articulate musicians."
Yamaha chooses artists to endorse based on many factors, including popularity, loyalty to the brand, personality, and talent. Criteria taken into consideration include record sales, television, movie, and video credits, tours, and teaching credentials from university and education systems. Dr. Strauman received this designation after submitting an in-depth application, curriculum vitae of academic experience, recommendations, and recordings of his compositions.
Featured Event: Golf Outing
Chestnut Hill College will hold its 28th Annual Golf Invitational on Monday, October 11, at the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill, Pa. Since its inception, the Golf Invitational has raised more than $700,000 for the College and its student programs.
Golfers will start the day with registration and brunch at 10 a.m., and a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. The outing will conclude with cocktails and dinner at 5:00 p.m. and the presentation of prizes. Special activities throughout the day include a $5,000 putting challenge, raffles, skill awards, and a $1,000,000 hole-in-one contest. Presenting sponsors for this year's invitational are Thomas Wynne Apartments, Jericho Manor Apartments, and the Chesapeake Bay Golf Club.
